second a day analysis
Second a day analysis
In the beginning,
the setting is located and based in a home. The setting is presented as very
homely where the main character is celebrating her birthday with family and
friends. In the beginning of the advert there are many candles on the cake and
the whole family are together in one environment and location.
The middle of the
advert would be considered the climax, where the troubles of the character
build drastically and the tension is created. The climax is one of the important
parts of the advert as it details the true struggle of refugee life, how
dangerous there environment is and how they struggle from adapting to dangerous
environments.
Techniques
/connotation
The advert continuously cuts to emphasise and present the
different aspects and areas of the girl’s life that dramatically changes
horribly. Each cut is significant and signifies how each day of her life slowly
progresses towards the tragedy of war. The character is shot in a range or many
different camera shots and angles.
Costume
The costume
constantly changes throughout the advert similarly symbolising the change of
her life. The characters costume is also a symbolic representation of how each
day of her clothing camouflages each day she experiences, for instance as the
advert progresses the characters clothing slowly becomes dirty and slowly
begins to disappear as we visible see in the end were the character is clothed
in a hospital gown. We also see a costume transformation through the end of the
advert were the character is dressed in a hospital gown that seems to be
unclean due to her environment in which she then transitions. Letting us as an audience explore and
adventure through the characters life and have an insight and glimpse, letting
the audience travel with the main character through her experiences but also
allowing us to see the changes through her life and feel a sense of empathy and
compassion.
Sound
Throughout the
advert, the sound in which is presented throughout the advert is known as
ambient sound, the sound that appear s in the background and throughout the advert.
The ambient sounds that appear in
the advert towards the end such as bullets, helicopters build the tension of
the scene giving the audience a sense of the atmosphere our character lives in
but allows the audience to feel our characters fear, suffering and plead.
In the beginning
the sound we can hear is very natural. Throughout the video there is also
elements of natural sound which gives a sense of naturalism and normality. It
also infers and links to how the characters life was once natural, that the
characters life was an ordinary and simple life which takes an unfortunate turn
towards the ending.
Camera
The close up shot of our character is highly perceptive
as it focuses on one main subject and allows us to travel with our character.
The advert continuously cuts to emphasise and present the
different aspects and areas of the girl’s life that dramatically changes
horribly. Each cut is significant and signifies how each day of her life slowly
progresses towards the tragedy of war. The character is shot in a range or many
different camera shots and angles.
As the advert progresses the shots increase in speed to
give a sense of emergency and urgency to create this sense of emergency with in
the campaign to help for Syria. The fact that their lives are changing rapidly
and that help is needed fast. The idea of each shot gives an insight to the
girl’s life and how she evolves each day, but also connects to how the change
of war begins and the transition from a peaceful existence can very violently
become a battle field atmosphere.
Although the advert specifically concentrates on our character,
it also allows us to see the activity happening in the background.
Lighting
The stages of lighting transitions are systematic as the
advert evolves. Bright lighting [candles] is purposefully presented in the
beginning as a symbolisation of the comfort and happiness of the character.
Candles also connote a new beginning in which can foreshadow the events to come...
As the advert comes to an end or towards the end the
lighting is distort and dim representing the surroundings of the character but
also perceiving the characters inner and internal darkness and fears.
Topic of the advert
Is war and refugees
Its moral message is
that just because we are privileged not live in a country of war does not mean
war is not happening in other places, there for we should contribute to
changing these horrific circumstances and help suffering children in Syria have
a stable life, just like children in the uk.
The character shown in the advert is highly
important as she does not just symbolise refuges but her innocents and purity
allows the audience to feel sympathy and condolence towards her.
The character is a
symbol and represents the past life and peaceful existence of how Syrian
children were once living and how. The character is a symbol of the past,
present and what foreshadows the future.
You are quite thorough on mise en scene, and there is analysis here of sound, camera and a little editing. However the section on editing could be more detailed, and you could have added stills to illustrate. V
