early editing techniques and its pioneers.
editing in-camera and cutting at a workbench,
you will be able to compare surreal editing with early continuity editing.
Task 1
Early cinema and the pioneers of film editing
In this task, you will find out about early editing techniques and its pioneers. You will learn about editing in-camera and cutting at a workbench, and you will be able to compare surreal editing with early continuity editing.
a)      Early cinema and the Lumiere Brothers: early cinema had no editing, looked at actual events, had no narrative, and used a continuous shot. Using stills from the film, write an analysis of one of the Lumiere films which illustrates these features.
b)      Pioneers of film editing technique and style: Using stills from the film, analyse the surreal (special effects) editing and in camera editing in Melies’ (1902) “A Trip to The Moon”.
c)       Pioneers: Using stills from the film, analyse the continuity editing and workbench cutting (Moviola) in Porter’s (1903) “The Great Train Robbery”.
Milestone deadline: 15/3/18
Evidence you must produce for this task
This can be written as an illustrated report, or an emaze, prezi, slideshow or using another type of digital creative technology.  You must use stills from the films.  This must be published on your blog.

To achieve the criteria you must show that you are able to:

Task 2
Technical Developments in Editing and the Purpose of Editing
a)      You will learn about how editing has changed over the years, from cutting and splicing, from reel to reel editing and non-linear digital editing.  Produce a timeline which shows the key events in the development of editing, using images and / or embedded video, and examples from real films, to illustrate. Include the following:
·         Film editing
·         TV / video editing
·         Linear editing
·         Non-linear editing
b)      Make a digital slideshow on the purpose of editing in an extract from one TV show or film.  Include an account of the following controls which editing allows for:
·         Time (speed up / down, compress, stretch, flashback/forward, to fit a running time, to control time in a narrative)
·         Space (create a logical / believable space)
·         Rhythm (duration of shots, flow, rate / beat)
Use a range of examples and stills from your chosen extract to illustrate these
Milestone deadline: 29/3/18
Evidence you must produce for this task
a)      A timetoast or similar, embedded on your blog
b)       An emaze, prezi, slideshow or using another type of digital creative technology.  You must use stills from the film / TV show extract.  This must be published on your blog.

c)       Early cinema and the Lumiere Brothers: early cinema had no editing, looked at actual events, had no narrative, and used a continuous shot. Using stills from the film, write an analysis of one of the Lumiere films which illustrates these features.
What is editing
Editing is a form of filming improvements that allows a film to be polished and have a narrative.
Train TRAVELLING ANALISS;
Analysing Lumiere, one of Lumeier first films, we see a very natural and original piece of art were there has been no embellished or change thus talking about editing, we see that Lumiere ,based on his original filming, wanted to bring movies to life in way that it will touch the audience and present a persona that audiences has never seen before.

No editing
As we can see from the film, editing had not yet been discovered or introduced to lujmiere in this [point in his career, but looking at the development of his films, editing had a huge impact and difference on his performance in film making as editing allowed lumiere to structure, form and create a whole new way of looking at movie as and how films could portray a more abstract way of visualizing life.  Editing not only meant making the films more fancy and quick to watch, but gave a particular sophistication and allowed the movies to have a narrative but also to allow audience s to be able to focus on a subject or for example ; an editing technique showed in one of Lumiere films were the character changes location from being in a burning building to sliding down the emergency fire pole, allows us to see 2 perspectives and viewpoints, being in one setting then changing to a safer setting.

Development of early editing
The idea of editing came about when the French film maker Lumiere, was filming a bus going by when the camera suddenly jammed, in an instance, the image changed from the bus to a car. This sparked Lumieres interests and it made him think, how can a film be more dynamic and transform
